A PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNAL OF SOUTH AFRICA'S OCEANS AND COASTLINE
Element is an annual photographic nature journal from Cape Town, founded and published by photojournalist Gunnar Oberhosel. Each volume explores our relationship with the natural world through one element – water, earth, fire and air – combining photography and long-form writing rooted in southern Africa. The inaugural issue is water.
The Water Issue is a photographic journey through oceans, coastlines and the communities whose lives are bound to them: the kelp forests of the Cape, the sharks of False Bay, the fishing families of Kalk Bay, the sardine run, surfing and the Southern Ocean. Thirteen stories from twenty nine photographers, writers and artists, including Chris Fallows, Hanli Prinsloo, Justin Fox, Jean Tresfon and Swati Thiyagarajan. Edited by Gillian Warren-Brown.
