There’s something special about the first Saturday of November. Each year, divers from every corner of the globe come together for International Divers Night—a thrilling, worldwide dive that brings out our shared love for the ocean. With dive clubs, centers, and shops diving simultaneously, it’s a friendly race to see who can gather the most divers. And guess what? Cape Town made some serious waves!
Organized by the fantastic folks at the False Bay Underwater Club, this year’s Cape Town event brought 152 divers to Long Beach in Simon’s Town—that’s over twice the turnout of our closest contenders! Divers from across the city joined in, making Cape Town’s dive scene one of the most active and passionate for the second year running.
Our closest competition was in Denmark at Amoniakhavnen with 78 divers, followed by a tie between Germany’s Strande and Poland’s Deepspot with 64 divers each. It was incredible to see Long Beach illuminated with dive torches as every pair of divers went under to explore the nocturnal marine life.
The sightings? Oh, they didn’t disappoint! Divers spotted loads of curious squid drawn to the lights, and even the elusive St. Joseph shark made an appearance. With flawless organization and not a single incident, the night wrapped up with everyone enjoying slices of cake on the beach—a sweet ending to an amazing dive.
A huge thank you to False Bay Underwater Club for bringing the community together for another successful Divers Night. We’re proud to be part of this fantastic, ever-growing community of Cape Town divers. Until next year, let’s keep the excitement alive and the ocean close!
